I fully believe that a healthy lifestyle- mind, body and soul- are important to live a full life. And although I am not an advocate of major consumerism and believe that happiness/contentment do not come from stuff, there are a few things that we do need to survive (e.g. food) that we are going to buy anyways, so might as well buy the good stuff.
